A proposal worth widespread support

Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada today welcomed the launch of a public consultation process towards plain and standardized tobacco packaging.

On World No Tobacco Day 2016, the federal Health Minister, the Hon. Jane Philpott, invited Canadians to participate in the consultation process that will help inform how plain packaging will be implemented in Canada.

"This is the first occasion in many years when the federal government has engaged Canadians in the design of such an important health measure," said PSC executive director Cynthia Callard. "The openness of the Minister and her department to new ideas to ensure that Canadian young people receive the benefit of the most effective approach is a crucial element to modernizing Canada's tobacco control system."

PSC encourages all those concerned with protecting the public from the abuses of commercial activity to participate in this consultation. Health Canada's consultation documents can be reached here.
